Ever heard of Reset or Theory Interactive? Don’t be surprised if you haven’t. Instead, you should be surprised that Reset’s debut trailer is not rendered CGI – it’s actually all ingame graphics. And it’s all exclusive for PC.
Besides revolutionary graphics, Reset might become a really interesting game. It is described by the developers as a “first person puzzle game with strong emphasis on story and atmosphere”. The player will also have the ability to travel back in time wich makes the player him- or herself a co-op player.

The science fiction-oriented fps Crysis is set to return again in the second quarter of 2013 with Crysis 3. Crytek and Electronic Arts just recently released a teaser trailer of what is to come. The infamous Army Delta Force officer Laurence “Prophet” Barnes returns once more to New York, and it’s not a lovely sight. The city has been turned into a large biodome, basicly a jungle, by Cell Corporation. Prophet takes on the role as the hunter with the goal to kill everyone in the dome with the help of the hightech weapon known as the Nanosuit.

Devoloper Crytek has been praised for the companys graphic achievements. At the same time, Crysis 2 was critized for its linearity. This is of course something that the whole genre is known for nowdays, and hopefully we will see a sequel which has embraced the criticism. Crysis 3 will also (of course) be run on the CryEngine 3 motor.

Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s patch 1.2 will be released tomorrow and Bioware is tuning the action up another level. Beside the implementation of the long awaited Legacy-system (which has been postponed since the release), one new raid called “Explosive Conflict”, as well as the flashpoint “The Lost Island” will be added to a galaxy far far away. The Lost Island is located on the planet Ord Mantell and follows the story of the operation Kaon Under Siege (it takes place immediately after it). Having learned the identity of the culprit responsible for the outbreak of the Rakghoul virus at Tion Hegemony, you and your party travel to Ord Mantell to put an end to the madness before the virus can spread any further.

The expanded universe and the new pve content is not all that is coming with patch 1.2. One of the more interesting additions to Star Wars: The Old Republic is the all new warzone Novare Coast. The main objective is to secure a vital beach, and the team that controls the beach controls the planet. In order to do this, you need to possess three big turrets, much like the warzone Alderaan Civil War.

Biowares space-MMO seems to remain a strong competitor to World of Warcraft and has stabilized its subscribers around 2 million. If you are one of those players who is longing for tomorrows adventure; may the Force be with you!

When Capcom released Resident Evil 4 back in January 2005, the companys franchise made a significant change moving away from survival horror to third person shooter-action. While the game was praised for its flawless controll and excellent gameplay, many loyal fans of Resident Evil questioned the new game due to its non-Resident Evil feeling. Even though it featured one of RE’s main characters, Leon S. Kennedy, the story was as far away from Racoon City as it possibly could get. This was however not a problem in Resident Evil: Code Veronica (which took place on a small island) but the fact that Resident Evil 4 was different from its predessors in so many ways made people either hate or love the new game. The original fans seemed unhappy and hoped that the next game would redeem the 4th installation.

The sequel, Resident Evil 5, promised to return some of the story to its old roots, put the missing piece back to the puzzle and make a grande finale for the series. Featuring another main character, Chris Redfield, as well as the main antagonist Albert Wesker, Resident Evil 5 was planning to reveal everything that had been left in mystery in the previous games and explain the origins of the T-virus. Once again, fans was dissapointed to see that the promise of a more lore-driven game was nothing but a lie. RE 5 was a great game, but heavily action-oriented. Once again, the core was not pleased.

Capcom has since then been talking about a reset for the franchise since the story of Resident Evil was concluded because of the destruction of Umbrella Corporation and the death of Albert Wesker. However, that seems to have changed somewhere along the way. Resident Evil 6 is coming, and this time – THIS TIME – it will feature all that was left out of the previous game. Resident Evil 6 is indeed returning to its roots (besides the emphasis on horror).

Starring both Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, Resident Evil 6 takes place in America and China in a very similiar faschion of Racoon City. Both characters are struggling with the endless battle of eradicating all types of bioterrorism and bio organic weapons (BOW), and when the president of the United States suddenly dies and a city becomes infested, our old heros return to the zombie action. The story focuses on a new type of virus – C – which is probably related to both G and T. Will the new virus result in a global outbreak and is Jake Muller, the son of Albert Wesker, the key to a cure?

Long lost characters such as Ada Wong and Sherry Birkin is also said to return to the long awaited game. Perhaps even Hunk. Oh, it will be glorious! Enjoy the new trailer!

Resident Evil 6 will be released October 2nd, 2012.

Resident Evil 6 – Captivate Trailer

NCSoft recently held a press tour in the english city of Brighton to demonstrate Guild Wars 2 and as the NDA was lifted yesterday we can probably expect a ton of new info ahead of us. The game is planned to be released sometime this year (expect October-November) and is offering some extraordinary gameplay compared to the usual MMO’s. Focusing the majority of its content on PVP, devoloper ArenaNet has put a lot of effort in its “World vs World vs World”-concept, which bears similarity to Dark Ages of Camelot’s realm-style PVP. It was also revealed during the press tour that Guild Wars 2 strives to become a game for the E-sports scene – with a format of 5v5 gameplay in different maps and with a variety of objectives.

It has been discussed whether Guild Wars 2 offers anything for the casual players other than just pure PVP. And the PVE sure does that. The standard five-man dungeons-experience will be available as you quest your way up to level 80, and is incredibly challenging. However, the most interesting part of the game is the new dynamic event-system, which makes the world of Tyria a fantastic place to be in. As you move through the different landscapes of game there’s a change that you encounter a random generated event that every player in the area can participate in, without the need of being in the same group. For example, that can be a bunch of bandits invading a farm while you’re doing quests at that particular farm. Defeat the bandits and you earn rewards from either loot from the bandits or by gratitude from the farmer. The system is indeed a intersting one and the element of surprise and randomness may be something that adds a little life to the MMO genre.

Guild Wars 2 will not only compete against giants such as World of Warcraft, RIFT and Star Wars: The Old Republic. It might also meet its biggest challenge in its own gameplay. ArenaNet wants to completely remove the standard progressions and reward-system that is so common to todays MMO’s. This means that instances and quests does not reward better gear. Dungeons, and eve PVP, instead offers visual gear without any progress to your own stats. Everyone will have the same conditions, regardless of class or professions. How will the players react to that sort gameplay mechanics? We eagerly await more reports from ArenaNet regarding this. Guild Wars 2 might be the game that revolutionizes the genre.
